Family Support

At Rainbow, families have always been at the heart of our philosophy, right from the very beginning. We believe in building strong relationships between families and our centre because we know that when families thrive, children flourish.

Our Family Support program is designed with you in mind. It’s not just about childcare; it’s about empowering parents on their journey through the ups and downs of parenting. We’re here to offer guidance, encouragement, and a helping hand every step of the way.

At Rainbow, we’ve created more than just a childcare centre – it’s a vibrant community where parents are actively involved in their child’s education and growth. From exciting activities to engaging classes, we provide a supportive environment where families can learn, grow, and thrive together. Join us on this incredible journey of parenthood!

Collaborative Relationships with Support Agencies

At Rainbow, we’re deeply committed to staying informed and connected with the latest resources and support networks for families. As part of this commitment, we’re actively engaged with Dunedin’s Well-Child network.

This collaborative network brings together a diverse range of professionals, including health, social service, and education experts. Together, we work tirelessly to enhance the well-being of children and their families, striving to improve outcomes and provide comprehensive support.

Our involvement in the Well-Child network ensures that we stay up-to-date with current issues and trends affecting families in our community. Through our valuable contacts, including:

  • Public Health Nurse
  • Plunket
  • Dental Therapist & Immunisation Coordinator
  • Child and Family Services (mental health)
  • Sport Otago
  • Catholic Social Services

We’re able to access a wealth of resources and expertise to better support the diverse needs of our families.

Rest assured, at Rainbow, we’re always working behind the scenes to ensure that your family receives the highest quality care and support. Together, let’s nurture a thriving community where every child can flourish.” 🌟👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Unfortunately, postponed due to Covid 19 pandemic –

but they will be back in a new an exciting ways!!

Mum and Me Dates

In recent years, we provided fortnightly Coffee Groups for mums and a playgroup for the children not booked to attend the preschool at that time. However, due to the changing needs of the mothers, and the Preschool, we changed to provide ‘Mum and Me Dates’ once a Term. These events encouraged mothers to have special one on one time with their child as well as helping to form relationships with other mums who attend Rainbow.  Some of these ‘dates’ have included ukelele lessons, visiting the gym, celebrating Mother’s Day and always included yummy lunch.     🌈💕

Who Let the Dads Out?

Over years we became aware that more and more dads have been coming through the doors of Rainbow doing drop offs and pick-ups. As a mainly female dominated team, we had been questioning ourselves, how could we make them feel welcome and more involved? We came across the UK Christian organisation called “Who Let the Dads Out?” and with their support and encouragement by email, we provided ‘Dads only’ outings and events for Dads, Grandads, Uncles and special male whanau, and their children once a term.  These proved to be very successful with 40 – 60 attending each time. Some of these events were: a Glow in the Dark Party, visiting a children’s gym, bus trips to the creek and electric stunning fish with a Fish & Game Officer, and a SuperHero Day.

Social Events

We believe in bringing families together in the spirit of joy and connection, which is why we had been hosting epic Centre Social Event every term! Our social events weren’t just about having a good time – they’re about building support networks and creating lasting memories. We look forward to reinventing these events in the future.

Parents Education

We recognised that parents already have great parenting skills, but we wanted to empower them to be even better equipped in the challenging task of parenting in the 21st century with the Parents Inc Toolbox Courses.  Having two of our teachers trained in facilitating these courses was a fantastic way that we could offer our parents our continued support.

Parents were supported to attend Toolbox courses through the provision of a playgroup.  Parents attending the Toolbox course built strong relationships with one another and we were able to continue supporting them on a daily basis through their child’s attendance at Rainbow Preschool.

The Covid 19 pandemic unfortunately upset some of our Family Support Programmes but rest assured, at Rainbow, we’re always working behind the scenes to ensure that your family receives the highest quality care and support. Together, let’s nurture a thriving community where every child can flourish.” 🌟👨👩👧👦
